About Me

Sara Schoch is currently the Director of Musical Theatre at The University of West Florida.

Sara has appeared in over 150 professional productions in 15 years and has worked with many Broadway veterans along the way, such as Marc Kudish, Kerry O’Malley, Rob Gallagher, Marie Danvers, Raymond Sage, Robbie Sella, Fred Rose, Richard Roland, and the legendary Jack Dabdoub.  She is a 3 time nominee for the New Hampshire Theatre Award for Best Actress in a Musical (ultimately winning in 2012 for her performance as Mother in Ragtime) and was honored to play Jenny Hill in the premier of Andrew Lippa’s Big Fish, when he and screen writer John August (Sweeney Todd, Big Fish, Titan A.E. Charlie’s Angels) recently decided to rewrite the show for a smaller cast and a renewed life in regional theatres.  Other favorite credits include: Candide (Cunegonde), The Last 5 Years (Cathy, Artie Nomination), Chicago (Roxie), The Music Man (Marian Paroo), Kiss me, Kate!(Kate/Lilli; NHTA Nomination), Into the Woods (Witch), Urinetown (Hope), Dirty Rotten Scoundrels(Christine; NHTA Nomination), Some Enchanted Evening (Julie; Joseph Jefferson Nomination),The Mystery of Edwin Drood (Princess Puffer), Cabaret (Schneider), Closer (Anna), and A View from the Bridge (Beatrice).

In 2015, Sara received the distinction of being recognized by the city of Boston as a Certified Artist, which is a designation given to those few persons identified as having both substantial talent and a vast body of work which contributes significantly to the arts in Boston and in Massachusetts as a whole.

Sara holds an MFA in acting from Brandeis University but it was while attending The State University of New York at Fredonia, for her BFA in Musical Theatre, that she discovered her love of teaching acting techniques to singers.  Sara has since held a private voice studio in Nashville, Tennessee and has traveled the country teaching masterclasses to young actors and singers.  She is an expert in audition techniques and her students and mentees can be seen in the Broadway productions of Aladdin, Finding Neverland, Les Miserables, and the much anticipated revival of The Color Purple as well as being featured performers in regional theatres, national touring companies and cruise ships everywhere.
